  • 3.0 out of 5 stars from Amber -- Not quite what I hoped for : I absolutely Love Allison Edwards and both her book "Flooded" and "Worry says What." This book fell a little flat for me though. It's pretty lengthy/wordy, so it would be difficult for dysregulated children to sit through the whole book. Also, while it tries to explain the concept of the amygdala in a kid-friendly way, it's so wordy that I feel like it ends up being confusing. I read it to my child, a usually well-regulated 4th grader. She had a little trouble sitting through the entire book and when we got to the end and I asked if she understood she said "yeah it's about how to relax," so she kind of got it. I just feel like the book would be too confusing for young kids and too childish for older kids and that makes it tricky to utilize. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Heart and Mind Teaching -- Great Counseling Book to teach kids to regulate emotions : Diego is struggling with his emotions. He gets angry on the soccer field, nervous during a test, and frustrated with his little brother. His parents take him to a counselor, Dr. B who teaches him to regulate his emotions. He teaches Diego about the brain, and explains that the Amygdala often kicks into gear when you are scared or mad. Often it can get flooded with so many emotions at once that it makes you feel like you cant think straight. He explains that he can control this by using some tricks: Breathe, Relax, and Imagine. Diego starts to use these tricks in his life and notices that he does not lose control as much anymore. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Sarah -- for kids on how to regulate their emotions : After reading through How to Crack Your Peanut, I immediately gave it to my daughter. Many kids have a hard time controlling their emotions and this book tries to help. For those that have fairly severe emotional dysregulation, these are strategies that you've seen before: breathe, relax, imagine. However, for those that sometimes just feel a bit out of control or irrationally angry, this is perfect. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Ravali -- Great book teaching kids about Emotional Regulation : Have you ever thought about what makes you react the way you do, especially when you get mad or upset? What tends to make you shout, scream, talk loud. How do you react when you lose your cool, are overwhelmed, and are out of control. You may slam doors, lose your temper, get nervous. It is hard for Adults to understand this themselves, so how will you explain it to the kids. On cue enters this beautiful book written by Allison Edwards. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Another Jenny -- Great book to help kids with impulsivity : How to Crack Your Peanut uses a social story to illustrate what happens to your brain when you get anxious and/or angry and what kids can to do gain control of the emotions and make better decisions. The boy in the story, Diego, has several incidents that prompt his parents to send him to a counselor who explains why he makes what he feels like are poor decisions when he is emotional and also what he can do to control his feeling and actions. Anger is explained in an interesting way that is atypical of these types of social stories, but this would resonate well with children. Recommended for school and public libraries as well as for a social group setting where social stories are used. ( Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Laura Filtness -- Great for school counselors and psychologists : One of the most important ways we can teach students emotional regulation is by helping students understand the science of what's happening to their bodies and brains. That's where @allisone_lpc comes in. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Kirsten -- Such an important brain-based book for kids! : If you believe in teaching students about brain-based behaviors, this is the book for you! ( Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2021 )
